I had the privilege of joining Dr. Kathryn Garforth from Right To Read Initiative in two podcasts/webinars this summer. Dr. Garforths' platforms are shedding a light on transformative reading instruction that aligned to the science of reading. Equitable access to reading instruction is a basic human right and sharing practice to reach every child opens a lens into the silo's of classrooms. It was a great opportunity to connect, share and grow as an educator.
In my first episode, A Journey to the Science of Reading, I reflect on my own educational career, my families experience with dyslexia and my response to intervention work building capacity as an instructional coach and early literacy reading consultant.

In the second episode, I provide a glimpse of my favourite instructional practices implementing structured literacy within full day kindergarten play based program. Focusing on striking a balance between play and intentional reading instruction while weaving the pillars of reading instruction into my program. Many of the practical resources shared show how structured literacy can be incredibly engaging as we support students in understanding abstract concepts and making them concrete.

Check out the show notes on the Right to Read Intivite website for all referenced resources. Feel free to comment, share and connect if something resonates with you!
